Let’s Talk About Air Catches: Air Locks and Your Dog

Let’s talk about air catches.
I sit with my clients, regularly, and help them learn to manage their dogs and yards. I describe my air catch in my field to them (not pictured) and suggest that they can make it as simple as I did or they can do some landscaping.
This is a picture of the one I have started in my immediate back yard. (Blue line is the beginning of the new fence.)
A few years ago the city added sidewalks down the length of my fences. (White arrow)
The field out back was easy because people don’t see it. I just put up a fence 10 ft out and put a garden in the space in between the fences.
This part of the yard is more visible, so I had some fun with it last weekend. I will be adding wildflowers on the grass areas and trying to create a Missouri eco system type space. I may add some potted plants and small trees too. I will have the chipped walkways for people and equipment to go in and out of the gates. Easy peesy… well, easy because I had 3 teenagers help me. 🤪
There are a few things I am already loving about this new fence.👏👏👏
1) I can take 5 steps to the new fence line and get my dog’s attention.
2) The yard is smaller so they can’t get into the intense running, that injured my chihuahua.
3) The stupid people that drag their dogs along my fence can’t let their dogs bite mine.
Things I don’t like…👎
1) Stupid people spend more time hanging out on the sidewalk because their dogs aren’t fighting with mine.
2)Justice can’t reach to pee on said stupid people.
So, pluses and minuses, but all in all I am loving it. I should have done this years ago. I will keep updating it as I have time!
